Behind the Biz - Power House Kickboxing

In a world where strength is often equated with masculinity, Meghan Gilbert dared to challenge stereotypes and carve out a space where women are empowered through strength & fitness. Located in Westdale, Powerhouse Kickboxing is rewriting the narrative of what it means to be fierce, fearless, and female.
Having spent over 15 years training in everything from Karate to Krav Maga to Kickboxing, Meghan was intimately aware of the benefits of martial arts. “It’s exercise and stress relief rolled into one,” she said, “It’s just a really fun workout.”At the same time, she acknowledged the spaces weren’t always the most female-friendly, describing the classes as, “very masculine and competitive. These weren’t spaces most women felt comfortable in,” she explained.
Fuelled by her passion for martial arts and a desire to provide a community space for women that “lifted them up rather than broke them down,” Meghan took a leap of faith and opened Powerhouse Kickboxing.

In addition to her expertise in the martial arts world, Meghan is a force of nature in her personal life. As a mother of four - including spontaneous triplets - she said life is never quiet. But that hasn’t stopped her. Balancing entrepreneurship with the chaos of motherhood is no easy feat but it’s safe to say her resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to her vision have helped her achieve her goals. As has the joy of watching her students become their best selves. “Watching girls and women who have just met cheer each other on; witnessing the sheer power they all possess; seeing their faces as they leave after class. They look strong, happy, powerful, proud and ready to take on the world,” said Meghan. “It’s just the best.”Whether you’re a seasoned fighter or a total newbie, you’ll find your place here at Powerhouse Kickboxing.
